Education Min begins N527m payment of promotion arrears, first 28days and other allowances *striking Federal Unity Colleges teachers to resume after Sallah The management of the Federal Ministry of Education has received the sum of N527million from the Finance Ministry for settlement of the allowances of striking workers and teachers of Unity colleges, Scan News has gathered. Investigations revealed that the Finance Ministry released the said fund with cash backing last Friday. This is contrary to the false information released by union leaders that the Permanent Secretary had refused to pay after receiving earlier releases. Sources at the accounts department told our correspondent that the accounts of affected workers are being credited since the money was received. When Scan News visited the Ministry on Friday, Ministry accountants were seen putting finishing touches to the payment process. Union leaders are expected to call off the strike next week, following the commencement of payment. The balance of the arrears is expected to be paid in the coming months.
