Eggon, Fulani sign ceasefire agreement By Lafia, Peter Ahemba - Nigerian Pilot In a bid to put an end to the lingering crisis between Eggon and Fulani herdsmen in Nasarawa State, the two warring parties yesterday resolved to live together in peace, with assurances from both parties to respect an agreement reached. The agreement was reached during a peace meeting, which had in attendance representatives of Fulani and Eggon communities at Arugbadu community in Nasarawa-Eggon local government area of the state. Speaking on behalf of Fulani community, Alhaji Mohammed Lawal, who attributed the crisis between the two communities to impatience, noted that the peace deal has become necessary in view of the untold hardship being experience because of the misunderstandin g. He maintained that there was no reason whatsoever for the two communities to engage in fracas considering their longstanding relationship, pointing out that both Islam and Christianity forbid the killing of fellow human beings. In a remark the member representing Nasarawa-Eggon East constituency in the state House of Assembly, Hon. Mohammed Agga Muluku urged both parties to forgive and forget the past in the interest peace. Speaking earlier, the district head of Alizaga, Mr. Sule Dogo and the National President of Eggon Cultural Development Association, Hon. Usman Offor, expressed the hope that the meeting between the two parties would end the persistent skirmishes. He equally advised the youths from both sides to desist from taking the law into their hands and allow peace to reign for socio-economic development to strive. Nigerian Pilot Sunday reports that other highpoints of the meeting were the setting up of a peace committee with membership from both Eggon and Fulani communities and the resolve to create grazing routs for cattle rearing in the area.
