Engage the Word Day 39 One Body Many Parts Our story today is an example of unity among the believers in the body of Christ. Paul explains this by using an analogy of the parts of the human body. Scripture: I Corinthians 12:12-31 God has meticulously put this body together; He placed each part in the exact place to perform the exact function He wanted...the eye, the ear, the hand. If we were all an eye, we would be so limited. If we were all an ear or hand, the outcome would be the same. But it is not that way. But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be (v. 18). This is true not only in the human body, but also in the church body. This can be applied to a small church body - the local church - as well as a large church body - the international church. We were all baptized by one Holy Spirit. We are connected. When one part of the body of Christ suffers, we all suffer. When one part is honored, we are all honored. We should have equal concern for each other, and there should be no division in the body. All the parts depend on and care for one another. In the body, God has appointed ...first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues (v. 28). Not everyone can do all these things. But when the body of Christ works together, the miracle of UNITY happens! Life Application: What do you believe is your function in the body of Christ? Do others in the body confirm that function? In your church body, are you fulfilling your appointed task?
