Enjoyed Jonathan Ross last night - in particular a mini debate with Boris Johnson and James Cordon on cycle helmets. The facts of Boris are correct, those of James are not facts. Unfortunately wearing cycle helmets to reduce injury is not supported by science. UNLESS they are correctly fitted and worn, and then ONLY in the prevention of a proportion of fractured skulls - and nothing else. Helmet design is only to reduce fractured skulls - nothing else. If it is your choice to wear, then, most importantly, get them correctly fitted and wear them appropriately. Perhaps even more important ways of reducing injuries are better training for cyclists and drivers - most of whom probably dont understand cycle legislation, including that a cycle by law should actually be cycling in the middle of the lane. Education is key...
