Environmental News 25.12.14 Part I: China steps up penalties against polluters AT LAST China’s government seems pretty serious about chasing after polluters and during 2014 the countrys environmental regulators nearly doubled the number of cases they referred to police involving suspected polluters compared to last year, according to the state’s media service, Xinhua News. Environmental agencies also penalized about 190,000 enterprises for violating environmental laws over the past two years, investigated and handed down punishments in 103,707 cases and issued about $633 million in fines during that same period.
