Eternal Security vs. Final Perseverance Is there a difference - TopicsExpress

Eternal Security vs. Final Perseverance Is there a difference between "eternal security" and "the perseverance of the saints"? Technically, no; implicitly and practically, yes. Those who emphasize "eternal security" rather than the "final perseverance of the saints" usually approach salvation and Christian experience from different views. Those who hold to "eternal security" differ in at least two ways. First, these often base assurance of salvation on a subjective, momentary experience--time, place, occasion, emotional or intellectual experience--rather than the eternal redemptive purpose and the evidence of a consistent, converted life. Second, these are often antinomian and may mean "carnal security," i.e., that "once saved, always saved, no matter how one lives" because they have espoused the "carnal Christian" Hersey, and hold that true believers may live in a state of sin as do the unconverted. This is simply not true. If a professed believer does not strive for biblical godliness and consistency in the life, his assurance of faith is ill-founded. According to scripture, the covenant people of God are not only sustained by Divine grace, they seek to live godly in Christ Jesus in obedience to the word of God (Ephesians 2:10; 1 Thessalonians 4;7; 1 John 3:4-10).
