Even though humans have been using cannabis for thousands of - TopicsExpress

Even though humans have been using cannabis for thousands of years, theres still much about it that we dont know or understand and many studies being currently done, to determine more about the relationship between using cannabis and schizophrenia. The results of two such studies have just been released. One study from Harvard Medical School, on 282 subjects, in a comparison between families with a history of schizophrenia and those without, finds little support for marijuana use as a cause of schizophrenia - ( psychcentral/news/2013/12/10/harvard-marijuana-doesnt-cause-schizophrenia/63148.html ). But another study from King’s College London, involving over 2,000 participants has found an association between genetic risk factors for schizophrenia and cannabis use, suggesting that the genes predisposing individuals to this psychiatric disorder may also increase the likelihood of cannabis use. No matter what the new Harvard study says, studies have consistently shown a link between cannabis use and schizophrenia, we just still dont understand fully why this is. It seems to be a bit hit and miss, as far as actually finding a way to know whether someone might have a genetic predisposition to psychotic illness caused by cannabis use... but at least there are many trying to find the answers at the moment... Personally, Id like to see some sound scientific evidence and actual proof of what does predispose someone to schizophrenia from smoking pot, this is one part of legalising use that is still a bone of contention for me.
