Even when there is no red tide reported, Mote and FWRI scientists are still hard at work collecting and analyzing water samples to see what IS in the water. This provides us with information about the phytoplankton community with and without red tide. Although we often do not find Karenia brevis, there is always something to see. Here are a couple of pictures of some common dinoflagellates that were found in samples collected at Mote today. Can you identify them (to genus)? (Hint: they are not Karenia!)
