Events that Ive watched: Aerials, Alpine Skiing, Biathlon, Curling, Figure Skating, Half Pipe (Ski and Snowboard), Hockey, Luge, Moguls, Skiathlon, Ski Jumping, Slopestyle (Ski and Snowboard), Ski and Snowboard Cross, Speed Skating (Long and Short Track), Skeleton Heres what I learned in the last 3(!) days: - When you get home from work at 2am, it makes it really hard to watch the Olympics from that day. - Parallel Giant Slalom is the Best Skiing event, based solely on the fact that its actually a race. - Full disclosure, I wrote that as soon as I saw that Parallel Giant Slalom was an event. Upon actually watching the event, I discovered that that it was in fact a Snowboarding event, not a Skiing event. I feel as though I owe you a bit of honesty, and there it is. - I thought of another Goofy Foot joke: If riding with your right foot forward is called riding Goofy Foot, then riding with your left foot forward should be called riding Pluto Foot. A little Mickey Mouse reference for ya. - Austrian Snowboarder Benjamin Karl lost in his Parallel Giant Slalom race, but it worked out for him because after the race Billy Madison decided to give them company to him. - Canadian Snowboarder Jasey Jay Anderson went to the Mark Wahlberg school of naming yourself. Being from Canada, instead of a Funky Bunch he has a moose. - Russian Snowboarder Vic Wild is from White Salmon, Washington. Thats way too specific of a fish to be an acceptable city name. - Mao Asada skated pretty well in the Free Skate, but Im a bigger fan of her brother Carne. Ill be here all week. - I think the Oh my god, shes 15 and so good! stuff can stop with athletes. I mean 15 year olds are human sized people too sometimes, so it stands to reason they could be good at stuff. - Next time you watch Figure Skating, pause it during a jump. You will either see the Skater making a really funny face, or it will look like they can levitate. - Johnny Weir said Not the performance she was looking for at the end of Ashley Wagners Free Skate, literally as she pumped her fist and yelled in joy. This is reason #8,990,236 that announcers need to stop trying to tell us what athletes are thinking, because clearly their analysis of it is stupid. - So moral of the story is that Canada is better than the US in Hockey. But, the US is better than Canada at saying the word About, so we win. - Sorry Islander fan(s?), you lost John Tavares and the US lost. Thats a pretty bad lose lose. But, as a fan of the team that had a fisherman as a logo once, Im guessing youre used to it. - You know while Yuna Kim was skating her Free Skate all of the Russian fans were thinking Fall! Fall! Fall! - Its a good thing Ted Ligety won the Gold Medal in Giant Slalom, because its been way too long since we had an excuse to make a Blackstreet reference. Apologies if the song is now stuck in your head. - According to the announcer, Slovenian Mustachioed Skiier Filip Flisar likes himself a good mustache. Easily my favorite description of an athlete ever. - He does in fact win the first ever Winter Olympics Mustache of the Day award. Id recommend googling him to see it for yourself. - The Ski Cross course had bumps known as Knuckles, and a Wu Tang section. As long as we are taking the Winter Olympics seriously. - If anyone were to ask my opinion, I would tell them that the easiest way to make the Winter Olympics less boring would be to have way less Cross Country Skiing events. There have literally been events in that sport everyday, plus Biathlon (which is cross country skiing with guns). Each event is boring, and takes way too long. - Name of the Day goes to Dutch Short Track Speed Skater Sjinkie Knegt. For those scoring at home it is pronounced Shinky Connect. - The Sarah Burke story is heartbreaking. During the piece on her that they did, her mom said I used to think that the worse thing that could happen was losing Sarah. Now I realize that the worst thing would have been if I never had her. It was really touching to see all of the Skiiers do a tribute to her prior to the beginning of the Half Pipe event.
