Ever since I walked in the doors of the Girls Rehab Facility (GRF) - TopicsExpress

Ever since I walked in the doors of the Girls Rehab Facility (GRF) back in 2011 on Christmas Eve I had a deep affinity for being a mentor for those young girls. I may not have walked in their same shoes, but I sure know how many of them felt. I could feel their emotions and I could see the pain in their eyes - just wanting someone to love them NO MATTER the cost. Many of the girls in GRF are victims of abuse many of them are second and third generation offenders of the law. Who is truly looking out for these girls to make sure they stay on the straight and narrow? Who genuinely loves them and wants the absolute best for them? I mean, there is only so much the officers can do. Most of them have had their own family give up hope on them. So what does this solve? Nothing! There was one girl that afternoon who after my speech contacted me. She was released from GRF and found herself in an abusive relationship. She reached out to BTS and asked for help. Since that 3am Facebook message I NEVER gave up on her! Her family and friends may have - but I NEVER did. Ive seen the growth in this young lady since the first time we met. There is so much more growing left to do, but sometimes she doesnt realize it. Sometimes her bad habits sneak up on her and challenge her to go back to her old ways. But Im always there to remind her to follow me. It truly breaks my heart when I see the regression of someone. You see so much positive growth and then one instant it can all change. If youre wondering why that is.. I can tell you. As victims of previous abuse or even victims of bad habits its so much easier to go back to old habits and old ways of thinking instead of challenging ourselves to be outside of the box and different. We rather conform than to give more effort to accept change. To all the young girls & even women Ive mentored and continue to mentor I want to leave you with this.. Dont settle! DO NOT SETTLE. Relationships take work, believe me its an everyday full-time job. Getting into a relationship means commitment, love, compassion, equality, and respect. Another thing, especially to the ladies.. YOU CAN NOT CHANGE ANYONE! You should not ever get into a relationship to try and fix someone. If you do, youre only setting yourself up for failure.
