Ever wonder why people vote for bad politicians? When its clearly obvious just by listening to what those politicians say that they are no good. It is because many people hold an extremely bad premise concerning ideas. They hold that the theoretical and the practical have nothing to do with each other. Whats the use of thinking? they say. It wont help you do anything in reality. Why should we care about what politicians actually say and believe? Its all thoughts and ideas. Those things dont matter! What matters is whether we like the guy or not. Whether he can be our friend, our neighbor, whether he dresses well but not too well, whether hes compassionate but not too compassionate, selfless, modest, a good conversationalist, approachable, smiles, etc. ^Those are the people who think that ideas have nothing to do with practical reality. What a president believes, they hold, will not determine how he will act. Be careful of those people and of that premise. Ideas matter. The theoretical and the practical are not separate. They cause each other, and usually the theoretical causes the practical, especially when were talking about fundamentals.
