Every Single Day under Present Regime Adds To Peoples Problems: Mehbooba Srinagar, Nov 23: Peoples’ Democratic Party president, Mehbooba Mufti has said the National Conference-led government is increasing its criminal liability with every day scams and adding trouble to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and there was immediate need for a sincere, transparent system in the state. Addressing public meetings at Tragam and Banyari in Sonawari constituency in the north Kashmir’s Bandipur district, she said the Omar Abdullah government has turn out to be great source of trouble for the state and it is now high time for the people to think what is good for them. In this regard, she said, 2014 throws an opportunity for the people to make sure that a new system of accountability, transparency and justice is introduced and the present insensitive and cruel dispensation is shown the door. The government is party to every single crime being unearthed here, whether it is BoPEE scam, cricket scam, CA&PD scam, and it seems the rulers are on a mission to loot this state. Mehbooba said Omar Abdullah came into the power with tall promises but five years down the line he has failed everyone here, even reversed the gains made in the previous PDP-led government, and with the passage of time its continuation has in turn become costly for J&K. While the PDP in 2002, made modest promises before the people and during its brief tenure in the government made sure that an accountable, honest structure can be established without promising high. “Mufti Mohammad Sayeed established a government which was sincere in its approach and delivered much than it promised,” said Mehbooba. Besides other major initiatives, PDP during its brief tenure streamlined the power sector; accelerated the development process; created sense of security among the masses and opened the Line of Control for travel; started work on the historic Mughal road, she said and added with the creation of Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA), Asian Development Bank (ADB) funding and economic packages by the two prime ministers-Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Dr Manmohan Singh- paved the way for Mufti government to go for major development programme across the state. The PDP chief said Omar Abdullah has become a bad work man and apparently he does not have trust in his officers and that is why he has been reemploying the dead wood in the administration. “We have best of the officers available in the state and Mufti Shahib involved them, gave them respect, space. That is why our government could make a change happen on the ground,” she said adding it was the same police which didn’t have to imprison anybody; had not to house arrest any senior political figure and didn’t have to cover up the crimes of rulers. A change could be felt, but things have changed and are totally different now. Mehbooba said, in 1996 National Conference got unprecedented majority in the assembly and people had expected a change, but they (NC) further worsened the situation. Shatoosh was banned, which resulted into thousands of people jobless, mostly in the Shahar-e- Khas area of Srinagar; POTA was introduced when it had not become law yet; to further the peoples miseries STF was started; blanket ban on government jobs was implemented; seven most feasible power projects were sold to the NHPC- just for the sake of power in the state and junior ministry job for Omar Abdullah in the NDA government. Speaking on the occasion, the party’s Chief Spokesman, Naeem Akhtar said the people of Banyari should be involved in the execution of Wular Project. The project for the preservation of the Asia’s largest fresh water lake was approved by the PDP-led government but got funded late, has not seen the involvement of local in it. For better results, the locals should not feel marginalised and their interests need to be held at any cost. Akhtar said the Manasbal Development Authority started by the Mufti government has not been able to show the desired results so for. Its funding has almost been stopped due to unknown reasons, and no new projects have been taken up. The area which has huge potential for tourism can provide respectable job opportunities for the locals if taken seriously, but the initiative stands reversed now.
