Every time I think I understand human beings better, something - TopicsExpress

Every time I think I understand human beings better, something happens to remind me just how inexplicable relationships between people can be. There’s a filmmaker who I became friends with years ago on a filmmaking message board and we remained friends after we both moved to Facebook. Her husband eventually friended me and he was very active on my page for a long time. He also friended a number of my friends. We talked a lot privately and I considered us close friends for awhile. Then he got mad about a political position I took (related to the Boston marathon bombing, oddly) and he unfriended me without explanation. He never said a word. Many months later, he sent me another friend request — again without a word of explanation. I ignored it, as I had ignored him when we both commented on threads of mutual friends in the meantime. If you’re going to ditch me as a friend with no explanation, you’re going to need to explain something when you return, not act as though nothing’s happened. I didn’t have any animosity toward him, but I didn’t trust him. Today I realized that he’s blocked me and that his wife — my former friend — has unfriended me. Why? Who knows? Every time something odd like this happens, it just makes me feel (again) that I was accidentally dropped off on the wrong planet and that my people are somewhere far, far away.
