Excerpts from the daily press briefing by Romain Nadal, French Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman (Paris, march 10th 2014) : Meeting between Mr. Pascal Canfin and the archbishop and imam of Bangui (Paris, March 10, 2014) Mr.Pascal Canfin, Minister Delegate for Development, will today meet with Mgr. Dieudonné Nzapalainga and with Mr. Oumar Kobine Layama, Archbishop of Bangui and Imam of Bangui, respectively. This meeting will provide an opportunity to discuss the humanitarian situation in the Central African Republic, the issue of respect for human rights as well as the contribution of various religious leaders to the process aimed at resolving the crisis. The deployment of a peacekeeping operation in the Central African Republic, as recently called for by the religious leaders, will also be discussed during this meeting. Chile – Visit by Ms. Conway-Mouret to attend the ceremonies for the investiture of President Michelle Bachelet (Santiago de Chile, March 11 to 12, 2014) Ms. Conway-Mouret, Minister Delegate for French Nationals Abroad, will tomorrow represent France at the ceremonies for the investiture of President Michelle Bachelet. During her visit, the minister delegate will meet with Ms. Michelle Bachelet as well as with former President Ricardo Lagos. It will be an opportunity for the minister to underscore the excellence of bilateral relations between France and Chile and to signal our desire to strengthen them, notably in the economic and student mobility fields. The visit will also provide an opportunity to meet the French community in Chile (10,650 included on the register of French citizens abroad). Lastly, the minister delegate will inaugurate,at the Lycée Jean dAlembert in Viña del Mar,a foundation course in engineering from the University of Technology of Compiègne. Presentation of the first “French-German Prize for Afghan Women” (Kabul, March 8, 2014) France warmly congratulates Amina Hassani and Sharifa Danish Zaringer, recipients of the “French-German Prize for Afghan Women,”awarded for the first time in Kabul on March 8, on the occasion of International Womens Day. Amina Hassani, 22, a photographer and journalist, is involved in various associations, such as the Afghan Photography Network and the Association of Women Journalists in Afghanistan. She is also involved, on a voluntary basis, in initiatives within the International Association for the Protection of Children in Bamiyan Sharifa Danish Zaringer, a poet and sculptor, is a teacher who is passionate about arts and literature. She strives to make art accessible to the most vulnerable people, especially girls, in order to make it both a recreational activity and an income-generating activity. The two prize winners, who were selected by a jury made up of key Afghan figures and representatives from the international community, will receive French-German support for a project of their choice aimed at promoting women’s initiatives. The creation of this prize reflects the shared determination of France and Germany to pay tribute to women who distinguish themselves in their field of activity by projecting a modern and positive image of Afghan women.
