The position number is listed below: College Readiness Specialist - Secondary School Reform (IRC # - IRC3200) POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: College Readiness Specialist ORGANIZATION: Division of Academics REPORTS TO: Academic Officer JOB CODE: 75 CLASSIFICATION: ASASP Unit III, Grade 26 POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Academic Officer, the College Readiness Specialist will act as a liaison between the high schools and colleges and universities. Responsibilities include developing, implementing, and managing the District’s college readiness program. The College Readiness Specialist will coordinate, manage and implement strategies that increase student participation in post-secondary education. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The role of the College Readiness Specialist is described below. This position will report to the Academic Officer within the Division of Academics. The duties and responsibilities include: • Develop, implement, and oversee the District’s college readiness program; • Identify, plan, and implement all program components to meet College Readiness goals; • Manage and maintain ongoing relationship between colleges and PGCPS high schools; • Manage community partnerships as they relate to the College Readiness programs; • Assist with the implementation of the PGCPS dual enrollment program; • Coordinate and integrate initiatives that promote and enhance student services; • Implement and manage accountability of program standards and measures; • Coordinate, manage and implement yearly calendar of activities and events; • Monitor program progress; • Implement college fairs and guest speakers; • Identify PSAT, SAT, and Accuplacer preparation opportunities and facilitate students participation in the preparation; • Maintain records of attendance and participation in all program events and activities; • Assist the schools in the dissemination of information to students and families; • Ensure alignment for mentoring, tutoring, and counseling services at schools where needed; • Plan and implement a college counseling program for parents; • Create a coherent vision for the multiple student support programs; • Provide leadership in the planning, monitoring and use of effective best practices in increasing student graduation rates; • Ensure compliance with grant and externally supported college readiness programs; • Work with the Division of Information Technology to develop a tracking system to document the number of programs offered, and students served; Prince George’s County Public Schools 14201 School Lane • Upper Marlboro, Maryland 20772 • pgcps.org 2 Last updated 2/26/2014 • Collect, analyze, and distribute data to principals around program supports; • Conduct program evaluations to determine the success of college readiness programs; • Share program options with principals; • Submit reports as required; and • Perform related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. • Knowledge of college preparedness, admissions, and registration procedures, familiarity with FAFSA website and Financial Aid processes; • Knowledge of program management; • Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills; • Ability to keep abreast of new guidelines, emerging trends and best practices related to college preparedness and support programs; • Demonstrate leadership and organizational skills; • Knowledge of electronic data collection; • Ability to work with diverse populations; • Knowledge of school organization, goals and objectives, curriculum, teaching techniques, current trends, research, and materials of instruction in field of specialization; • Excellent knowledge and understanding of the teaching and learning process; • Ability to provide communication that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education; • Ability to utilize technology; • Ability to work effectively with students, parents, administrators, colleagues, community, and other school system staff; and • Excellent oral and communication skills. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelors degree required and Masters degree preferred in education, business, human resources, or a related field. CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: None required. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No direct supervisory responsibilities.
