Exit Strategy by JS Moore 11.4.2014 He who has great power should use it lightly. - Lucius Annaeus Seneca Suicide has many forms. The first form is the most obvious, but other forms are much more common in this black and white world. I began a gradual affair with suicide really when I published my first book and started to really express my opinion or share stories from my own perspective and experience. Understand that when someone finds their voice, their true voice, and others began to hear it without listening – then the author of the words – little by little – begins to wither away, especially when writing is their calling. Now sometimes its the listener, themselves, who start to undergo a similar ritual. This can be applied to music as well. My perspective is that God gives us all gifts which we are expected to give away. Every time Ive written a book nobody takes the time to read – I feel a bit stronger with my convictions and my unending love for God. This was not something I noticed early on as a novice in storytelling. In my writing career I have seen some success, however. Anyone who truly knows me knows I find a way to give away those proceeds. Otherwise, I might drive a fancy car or live in a bigger house. Let me stop making this writing about me, though. While in San Juan, Puerto Rico over twenty years ago there was a man we can call Chaplain. He had a genuine love for humanity. He is actually the closest person to a saint Ive witnessed in my short existence. Quietly, he went about Gods work and assisted military families with domestic problems – always somehow showing them a resolution which involved pure love. Though his reach didnt assist everyone he encountered, he truly walked loves path with grace and purity. If he had a dark side, I sensed no trace of it... not once. Chaplain invited any soldier wishing to go on a mission trip to the center portion of the island near the rural city of Ponce. This was my first mission trip. There were only a handful of us went. Paul, the Chaplains assistant, I still count a close friend, although Ive not seen or heard from him since maybe December of 1994. Specialist Clark, too, was an inspiration to me and a counted on friend the one year I was in Puerto Rico. We were all on this mission trip together. I drove the van for half of the trip. And Chaplain let us into what many might call the wilderness. The beautiful thing about this trip was the way people were living, though it may seem foreign to the naive observer and almost like they were on the cusp of poverty, they were so happy for the small gesture of assistance and understood we were not trying to alter the way they were living. We werent there to build tennis courts like many missions do these days. We were merely there to fellowship. Chaplain was teaching us all something and I believe we call came away from the trip with a greater understanding of Gods love. Real LOVE... one love. What does this have to do with suicide? It has everything to do with it. On a greater scale – had Chaplain not been a saint and reverse Chaplains mission had been one of HATE – then he would have tried to force his beliefs onto them... and little by little destroyed their little piece of real estate. This is suicide... genocide... and with open eyes in Gods view – an absolute outrage. Its not any different than Columbus slaughtering the Arawaks or Hitler and his concentration camps. Examine this fully. Search your heart. What does humanity serve when not humanity? Love or hate. Other examples in our lifetime... hmmm.... so easy to give those examples, but I will leave it to the reader, or non reader – to find a way to disprove this statement. Chaplain, if you are reading this now, thank you so much for your example and care of others. Youve helped me now for twenty plus years to overcome adversity and seek the good in all things, and muster the courage to say without speaking – move without walking – and love without hurting. Thorns of resistance only exist, I know, from learning from you, when mankind expresses a genuine love for humanity and human beings are too blind to see the path laid out in front of them – only then do we beat eachother down, scratching every surface.
