FAITH. What is is? Why do we need it? Why does it seem to waver - TopicsExpress

FAITH. What is is? Why do we need it? Why does it seem to waver at the most difficult times in our lives? Just a few of the questions that come up in any discussion of faith. For some people faith is all about self....feeling like you have the strength and wisdom to deal with all that life hits us with. Others feel that faith in God or a power larger themselves is an important part of how to cope. Having faith in yourself, your loved ones, and maybe even your best friends....what does this really mean? Is it when you have faith that they will have your back in a time of crisis? Does this mean that when you are confronted with a difficult set of circumstances that you feel like you have the strength and the knowledge to overcome whatever obstacle is in your way? These are hard questions for sure, but they probably come up more often than you care to admit. For me is is probably a combination of faith in self and others, along with a strong sense of God and the role that he plays in my life. I do not want to confuse confidence with faith. I think they are both important, but they are not the same thing. Confidence usually means that you have the means to uncover the answer or find a solution to whatever it is that ails you. This is, most certainly not always true. Faith for me is about those unanswered questions. The questions that science cannot answer and that math cannot decipher. Where do we go when we die? Is there a heaven and hell? Why is it that good people’s lives are too often cut short by a terrible disease or horrific accident? There are many questions that plague the human race and it may be for this reason that people look to faith, God, or some Supreme Being. When people of faith come together there is a sense of calm oftentimes that accompanies the gathering. Many of the people there have the same questions, and gathering to chat, discuss, and sometimes even argue about the answers is often cathartic. The Larger Power sometimes gives people a sense of calm. Reading the holy books may not give the answers we are looking for, but they sometimes provide a moment of discernment that is often lost in the world that does not include faith. Sometimes hanging with people of like mind or attitude can provide the forum needed to come to grips with some of these things. I am a person of great faith for sure. I have said angry words to God when I did not understand, and I have bathed in his glory when things happened that made it all so clear that my faith is necessary and important. I have encouraged others to find faith, and to incorporate it into their lives in ways that are comfortable to them. I have gently prodded and made it a point to never demand or make it seem like if you do not have faith that God will not like you or support you any more. For me, God has already chosen each and every one of us. We are all children of His universe and He waits patiently for each of us to choose Him. I believe that to be a person of faith means that you have to try and live your life by being there for others. We need to be willing to reach out to give more often than we reach out to take. We need to be unafraid to express our anger with our Supreme Being, and we need to say thank you each and every day for all that our Universal Being has given to us. I know that there are people out there for whom this writing is meaningless, and this is absolutely OK. For those who consider themselves non-believers I say that you are still my brothers and sisters. You can count on me, and MY faith will not discourage me from being there for you always. Faith is a powerful tool to help us live our lives. In addition to my faith in my God, I have tremendous faith in the human race and people from all nations and walks of life. How can we go wrong if we love all people and be confident that most people want to do the right thing? Be strong my brothers and sisters!! Have faith.
