FAQ: I have cancer. Doctor told me that I have "xyz" cancer. What should I do? Answer: It can be a gamut of emotions---anger, fear, frustration, loneliness, confusion--both the patient and family members, so many questions.. Generally, these are few first steps that a patient/ family members could do: 1) Express your emotions --To the right positive person; a good friend, family member 2) Consider a second opinion-- Perhaps third/fourth opinion, to understand further your current situation 3) Keep copies of your medical records-- For doctor to understand your body that could help them in the process of curing the cancer 4) Find out similar support group- Related cancer group--cancer survivors 5) Find out your health insurance coverage--- For treatment purposes, and seek alternative treatment if no insurance coverage 6) Learn as much as your diagnosis--Be it first/second/third/end stage, understand your body/immune system now. Eat the right food to boost up your body and get yourself ready for any kind of treatment that you are going for. Consider a palliative care consult. 7) Be kind to yourself--Stay positive, simply take care of yourself during this time. Share your important/stressful tasks with your loved one or family members. Treat yourself a walk and some healthy good foods!!
