FAQS about the Hilux N70 Please take the time to read through these before asking your question on the page wall.... How Do I remove the Seatbelt alarm? Turn power on and set speedo to ODO Turn ignition off , Turn ignition on, within 5 seconds, press and hold the trip-reset button. After 12 seconds, fasten the seatbelt. Release the trip-reset button, the display should now show B-On, push trip button to change to B-off, turn power off and release the seatbelt. The alarm is now disabled. To enable it again, same sequence but push the trip button once again with the seatbelt fastened. The display shows B-on. How do I remove keys in the Ignition alarm? 1. Turn steer wheel 90 deg one way, remove screw that is visible 2. Turn 90 other way remove screw 3. Remove screw up in under steering column 4. Remove steering column bottom cover 5. Disconnect the small white plug with 2 wires that connects to the ignition barrel. 6. Put it all back together Will 33s fit on a 2 Lift? Yes, if you run a +10 or +20 offset rim with a 285 wide tyre and get a good wheel alignment that moves your castor forward as much as possible. What wheel offset should I run? The most important thing to consider is tyre size effects offset. Hiluxs can take anywhere from a +30 to a -44 although the larger - offsets arent recommended as they can put too much stress on wheel bearings especially if running big rubber. Your most common offsets are +20, +10, 0, -12, -24....as a reference, a 0 offset with a 265 tyre sits flush with the SR5 flare. The rest you should be able to work out using basic maths. Im going to fit an EGR plate, does mine need an 8-10mm hole? If its an 05 then NO If its an 06+ then Yes What does it mean if the fuel light is on/flashing? If it is on solid then you have a blocked fuel filter and it needs to be changed ASAP....if it is flashing then you have water in your fuel filter and it needs to be drained via the tap on the bottom of the filter housing. How do I reset the fuel light once the filters been changed? Leave the top sensor plug unplugged Turn ignition to the ON position After 5 seconds but before 60 seconds, plug the sensor plug in and light will extinguish...the flashing light extinguishes itself once you drain the water from the filter housing. What exhaust should I run? The most common size of performance exhaust for the D4D manual is 3, an auto in most cases is better off with something slightly smaller like 2.5 or 2.75 although 3 can be used....brands are much of a muchness, it depends on your budget but so long as its mandrel bent then it will perform fine. Whether you choose to run a muffler or resonator is up to you. A straight through exhaust wont put the engine into limp mode. Can I fit 15 rims on my Hilux? If you have a pre VSC model and any model after 2012 without VSC then YES, some but not all will fit, it can be offset dependant, your best option is to test fit them. If you have a 2012+ with VSC and it was released from the factory with 17 rims then NO, some 16s may fit but you will have to test them to make sure they clear the larger front brake calliper. Will I need to cut anything to fit 35s? Yes, anything from a 305 (12) width tyre and over will in most cases require the bodymount to be cut back. The pinch weld that runs around the middle of the inner guard will also need flattening. Most people running these larger tyres are running offsets from 0 and into the negatives. Whats the best performance chip? There are plenty of performance chips available for the D4D. The most advanced atm getting the best/safest results are Unichip and HKS. How often should I service my D4D and what oil do I use? Toyota recommends 10k km service intervals but because of the nature of the D4D and its tendency to retain carbon in the oil which over time can block the oil pickup leading to catastrophic failure, it is recommended you change it every 5K km. Use a good quality semi-synthetic oil. Check/change your fuel/air filter at the same time. Oil: Cold climate 5w40 Intermediate climate 10w40 Warm climate 15w40 What fuel economy are people getting from their petrol or diesel Lux? That will depend on 101 different factors like mods, tyre size, driving style, driving conditions, road conditions etc so comparing yours to anyone elses is a pointless exercise. My D4D blows smoke or rattles when cold, whats wrong? Diesels blow 3 kinds of smoke Black smoke = semi burnt diesel, its generally nothing to worry about, all diesels do this, especially when cold but make sure your air filter is clean as a restriction in airflow can cause this. Blue Smoke = Burnt oil due to worn valve guides, piston/rings or other engine components. This is not good and you should seek expert advice immediately White Smoke= unburnt diesel If your car blows white smoke on startup theres a good chance your injector seats/seals are leaking and need replacing, your best option is a titanium coated version as they last longer than the factory seats. If you car rattles when cold then you should get your injector feedback values checked to make sure theyre within spec, most mechanics have the diagnostic tool to do this. What injectors do people recommend? The original Denso injectors if you want brand new injectors but be warned, theyre expensive. Another option is to call Baileys Diesel Group and have a chat to them about their refurbished to better than Denso spec injectors. Not only are they alot cheaper, theyre remanufactured to tighter tolerances and offer a longer warranty. How much is a SAS conversion? A rough figure for a front SAS is $12-14k. Do it yourself kits are around $6.5k. My question wasnt one of these FAQs, what should I do? Before you post, take 15min to scroll down the page, chances are youll find it there, google is another option as is NewHilux...If all else fails and you still cant find your answer then fire away. A word of warning, the answers you receive are in most cases not from experts and alot of the time you will get contradicting answers.
