FATHER KNOWS BEST!! When I was in my twenties I thought I knew everything, boy I had so much to learn ! My MOM , MY DAD and I came up with an idea while looking through the JOHNSON CITY PRESS! Lets start a FAMILY business a sporting goods business , now remember this was in 1991! My DAD was president of MOR - FLO industries , a water heater manufacturing company that supplied this city with thousands of jobs over the years and is still in operation today! My DAD spent his life sacrificing ALL his FAMILY time for US! We opened the store and MOM and I worked everyday while DAD would work nights and weekends and I always loved working with my MOM because she would send me to DAIRY QUEEN every afternoon for blizzards! Hahaha! Jean Pickle worked part time and I loved her so much because she laughed at all my stupid jokes! The day before CHRISTMAS EVE or the EVE of CHRISTMAS EVE HAHA! My DAD said I had to work and of course i complained! I came in CHRISTMAS EVE and little did I know this would be a CHRISTMAS memory for a lifetime! It was slow , but dad and I watched bowl games and talked and had Hardees biscuits and arranged the store told dirty jokes and you thought my jokes were bad! Haha!Friends dropped by to say Merry Christmas and bring cards and cookies and of course MOM was at home wrapping gifts and preparing the CHRISTMAS FEAST!! We were almost ready to close and spending the CHRISTMAS EVE day with my DAD was worth all the money in the world even though then I didnt know it at that time! An elderly man walked in he didnt look homeless, but he didnt look like he had much money either! My DAD went into action , these two men talked about everything on earth and I was like come on DAD lets close up and go home ! The elderly man said he had walked through the MALL and not one person ask to help him or even acknowledged him, and asked do we have any REDSKINS stuff ! My DAD said We have a rack full of STARTER REDSKINS Jackets, STARTER was huge in 80s and 90s! He grabs 4 jackets , keychains , pennants and everything with the REDSKINS on it ! I couldnt believe my eyes! He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a roll of hundred dollar bills , he bought more in a half hour than we had done in a week ! UNBELIEVABLE!! He said these gifts are for his grandchildren and we just made his CHRISTMAS my DAD shook his hand and I will never forget the look of CHRISTMAS on this mans face! I learned how to be a better man that day , dont judge anyone just open your heart and your mind and eyes will follow! His grandchildren came in a few months later wearing the STARTER REDSKINS JACKETS and let me and Jean know that their GRANDFATHER had passed away , but they had the GREATEST CHRISTMAS of ALL TIME ! We smiled and hugged them and when they left we shared a few tears together!! THANKS MOM and DAD for teaching me the GIFT of LIVING and THE GIFT of GIVING!! MERRY CHRISTMAS and GOD BLESS!!!
