#FILIBUSTER (aka non-cooperation) (US) A delaying tactic, especially the use of long, often irrelevant speeches given in order to delay progress or the making of a decision, especially on the floor of the US Senate. (US) A member of a legislative body causing such obstruction. A classical example is the case of the REPUBLICAN PARTY in the US senate against the #OBAMACARE BILL! I understand that its new in Nigeria; esp gien the fact that we are yet #NEOPHYTES in both politics an democracy. I also understand that Nigerians think more with their heart (emotions &sentiments) that their minds/heads (I.e, common sense). Hence we analyse serious/critical National issues along #sentimental, #ethnical and/or #religious divides. What a shame. New & controversial as it may appear, what the APC has done in directing their National Legislature (members in the National Assembly) to #BLOCK all executive bills, including the #BUDGET consideration and confirmation of the #SERVICECHIEFs, is in order. The following issues are key: * they have not donethis secretly; but have come out #openly to announce their directive to the Nation and entire Global community. The purpose of which is to draw attention of all - the presidency who hitherto has been playing the #ostrich to the situation that necessitated this edict; the international community and, ofcourse, ALL NIGERIANS. * the issues that necessitated this #directive from the APC is (according to them) the very obvious rain of terror and clear breach of the constitution as is going own in #Rivers state. A situation where the #FIRSTLADY (who up till today, has no political relevance in our constitution), #MINISTEROFEDUCATION (who appears to me A TOUT) and the #COMMISSIONEROFPOLICE (who have failed to submit to the constitutionally recognized #CHIEFSECURITYOFFICER of the state) have all pitched themselves against the governor because of the mere allegation that the latter either has a VP ambition and/or the lame excuse that he is #stubbon. SMH! They have said UNTIL THE RIVERS SITUATION IS BROUGHT UNDER CHECK, NASS SHOULD BE ON A #STANDSTILL! I dont think that is too much in a democracy. Which state govnor in Nigeria isnt #stubbon? Except those who have sold their #honor to be boy-boy to the president. In true #democracy or #federal system of govt, the president and governors for that matter are not PREFECTS nor HEAD BOY! Why shld all governors allign and submit or worse still bow to him in every thing? Its a shame the king of politices we practice in Nigeria. Again, Nigerians are shouting that its wrong to block #budget passage. May I ask them: the one(S) dat was passed in previous years, how has it affect their lives? Hav we ever felt the #NATIONALBUDGET before? We should please say something else. In my opinion, without sounding #apologetic, the APC is begining to show that they are ready for #TRUE DEMOCRACY. I only hope and pray that if/when they get there, they wont be worse than what we have today. And using National legislatures to fight this battle is a good strategy. The crisis in Rivers (which is a functional part of Nigeria) can only be checked by the president/presidency. He is the #CinC including of the NPF. I REST MY CASE!
