FIX MY STREET – NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH SEPTEMBER THEME The Fix my Street theme for September presents the opportunity for ALL residents to get involved and undertake an audit of the street where they live. As residents, we sometimes take things for granted. Overhanging branches on footpaths, cracked or lifting footpaths, damaged road signs are just a few of the things that can impact on someone in our neighbourhood. Let’s not assume someone else has reported these matters to the relevant authority – do it yourself and take some ownership of your neighbourhood. September is the time for YOU to be proactive in your neighbourhood! Take a walk down your street or road, and make a mental note of anything that is in need of attention and that could present a risk to a neighbour or a visitor to your street. Referring to the list below, call the relevant authority and report your findings. Alternatively, email Neighbourhood Watch – Safer Communities Greater Geelong and Surf Coast – nhwgreatergeelong@gmail - and we will forward the matters for you. It takes just a few minutes of your time to take a look along your street. Typical issues we encourage you to report are: • Abandoned Vehicles Report vehicles that have been abandoned on public land. • Cycle Paths / Bike Lanes Report damaged pavement or obstructions on cycle ways or on-road bicycle lanes. • Driveways and / or Footpaths Report cracked, lifting or missing pavement. • Garbage Bins & Collections Report issues with garbage or recycling bin collections, or damaged or stolen bins. • Graffiti Report illegal graffiti • Grass Report overgrown grass or weeds on public land. • Litter & Illegal Dumping Report the location and nature of rubbish and debris dumped on public land. • Nature Strips Report nature strip concerns such as line of sight, pedestrian or traffic hazards and unapproved structures. • Suburban Streets/Roads Report poor road conditions or potholes needing repair. • Road Safety Report or submit feedback on road safety concerns in your street or neighbourhood. • Road Signs Report damaged, faded or missing street signs. • Sharps Used needles and other medical waste found on public land • Shopping Trolley Report dumped or abandoned shopping trolleys. • Suburban Parks & Playgrounds Report damaged and hazardous trees, equipment or other infrastructure in suburban parks and playgrounds. • Traffic Provide feedback about ‘volume of traffic’ concerns in your street or neighbourhood. • Trees & Shrubs Report trees and shrubs located on Council land that require maintenance or that pose an immediate threat to public safety.
