FOLKS: Without engaging in the fear mongering taking place in the media, I think it prudent to ask: What would ever possess any health care worker to either (1) board a plane from Dallas with 132 other passengers, or (2) board a cruise ship with a capacity of 4000 passengers? According to USA Today, the lab worker who is on that ship is in isolation NOW, however, they also state that it was 19 days since that worker was in the lab testing samples. Okay, fine! But then read a bit more of that same article, because according to my calculations this means she was in that lab no later than September 30, 2014. But wait: The cruise departed Galveston, Texas on October 12TH. This means she boarded a cruise ship on the exact same day as Ebola stricken nurse, Amber Vinson, tested positive for the disease. The EXACT SAME DAY! According to Carnival Cruise, this worker is in isolation now and this is good, however, it appears to me, at least, that our ME generation is coming back to haunt us. It seems abundantly clear that this worker felt no concern for the rest of those boarding that ship, and THAT is what disturbs me the most. This cannot be attributed to a failure in the CDC organization, or government, but on the individual herself for taking that cruise. Consider me naive here, but as a health care worker who works in a lab, are we to believe the worker did not know or understand the ramifications of doing such a thing? Please do not misunderstand me: I am NOT saying the worker did such an act out of malice, but it is rather disconcerting that a health care worker, who works in a lab, testing samples of one of the most deadliest diseases, who should be aware of the ramifications of boarding a ship, only 13 days after exposure; only to board said ship. usatoday/story/travel/news/2014/10/17/cruise-ship-ebola/17401823/
