FOUL ON ZONING PROCEDURES FOR HARIM SLAUGHTER/COOK FACILITY IN MILLSBORO PUBLIC MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT PROTECTING OUR INDIAN RIVER citizens group will be holding a public meeting at the Indian River Senior Center on July 31st from 7-9 pm at 214 Irons Ave in Millsboro. The meeting will address questionable zoning procedures, as well as taxpayer funding dollars and other potential negative community and environmental impacts of the proposed Allen Harim Foods poultry slaughter/cook facility proposal slated for the old Vlasic Pickle Plant site. Topics to be discussed will include: addressing questionable county public notice and comment procedures concerning the permitting of a “Potentially Hazardous” zoning use; environmental contamination at the plan’s proposed location, and the use of taxpayer dollars in a Brownfield Agreement to subsidize the development. Other topics of interest are impacts to public health, property values, and traffic concerns. Concerns over the impacts of 100 anticipated new poultry factory farms in a 50-mile radius the plant is expected to generate to feed its demand will also be discussed (these concern derive from a statement made by Allen Harim at the last county meeting on June 17th,, which was held at the Millsboro Firehouse).
