FROM THE NEWSROOM: (UPDATE) A male patient was transported by Life Flight to UMass Memorial Hospital with serious injuries following a motorcycle accident on Church Street in Thompson Sunday afternoon, according to state police. The accident occurred in Thompson just prior to the Putnam Town line at around 12:27 Sunday afternoon, when a 2000 Ford Ranger driven by 18-year-old Nicholas Plaza of Thompson was backing out of a driveway on his home road of Church Street, while a 2005 Kawk Zx600 J motorcycle driven by 29-year-old Anthony Bingham of Hartford Pike, Killingly was traveling South on Church Street. As the Ranger continued backing out, the motorcycle struck the vehicle, and Bingham sustained serious injuries and was transported to Day Kimball Hospital. Putnam authorities were the first to arrive at the scene of the wreck, Sunday. State police responded shortly thereafter and took over the investigation. Putnam EMS transported the patient to Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam. He was later taken by helicopter to UMass.
