FUN FOR ALL AT DEWSBURY RUGBY LEAGUE DAY Dewsbury Town Centre will come alive next Saturday, June 29, when the town hosts its inaugural Rugby League Day. This will be a combination of presentations and all-day activities. The event, the brainchild of Dewsbury TownTeam, is being held in conjunction with local amateur and semi-professional rugby clubs including the town’s very own Dewsbury Rams. As part of the celebrations, members of Dewsbury’s 1973 Championship winning team, led by Captain Mike “stevo” Stephenson, will be re-presented with their original trophy on the Town Hall steps. The trophies of the Festival of World Cups will also be on display. Dewsbury’s Roger Ram and Leeds’ Ronnie Rhino will swiftly re-enact the 1973 final for those who weren’t there at the time. Present day achievements will also be celebrated by performances from National Cheerleading Champions, Dewsbury Rams “Panache”. There will also be a Haka demonstration from local junior schools and a race between mascots from regional RL clubs.
