Facebook asks Whats on your mind? Veterans Day - Since 9/11, so much has changed - the Connecticut Army National Guard was called up to fight the war in Iraq and Afghanistan - Send off after send off, casualties and killed in action along the way. Some have taken their own life. Its been a long 10 years since our units were activated. I pass these Soldiers in the hallways at work, see them in my local community - deployed patches on their shoulders - and I look and see how young they are. Im looking at my Colchester heros photo posted below as I write this. I am so very proud of all of our volunteer citizen-Soldiers. As we continue to wind down from these deployments (and I know we still have Soldiers overseas), the fear of seeing the Chief, Director of Personnel and the Chaplain coming through the door of the office is also winding down. So many sleepless nights, so many tears have been shed, so many single very long 24 hours are coming back to normal (those who know me know I say normal is a setting on the washing machine and it lasts for 15 minutes). I didnt realize how exhausting this has been. I walk the halls with veterans of war. Join the Guard and youll be and do and see things like no one else rings so true. I have been honored to be a part of this unique organization, the military. I serve with some of the finest men and women this state has to offer - all volunteers, special folk. I honor all Connecticut Army and Air National Guard Soldiers. I honor all branches of service. I honor you.
