Facebook friends, a question. I have had, for many years, eating disorder triggers. Things like getting weighed, hearing diet talk or fat talk, counting calories, fitspo, on and on, leave me some combination of shaking, upset, or with many many more invasive thoughts. This is really unpleasant! Its also pretty unavoidable and maladaptive for me. As I recover more, I notice that some of these can leave me uncomfortable and mentally exhausted, but significantly less upset. If too many of these add up over time, Im more ED symptomatic, but by themselves, theyre less awful than they used to be. Since Id like to have fewer triggers, Ive gotten in the habit of letting myself experience the thing (fitspo, calorie counts). Except...now Im having trouble finding or anticipating the line between bothersome and uncomfortable, but okay and bothersome and holy crap I need to go calm down now Have any of you decreased your responses to triggers? How?
