Faceschool: 14 de julio 2002 muere Joaquin Balaguer Ricardo Joaquín Antonio Balaguer Ricardo (September 1, 1906 - July 14, 2002) was a lawyer, writer and politician Dominican. President of the Dominican Republic in 1960-1962, 1966-1978 and 1986-1996 periods. It was characterized by its enigmatic and full legacy of the Trujillo Era secrecy personality, his desire to remain in power through questionable elections and the use of state terrorism earned him the nickname caudillo . His repressive regime caused thousands of deaths and disappearances. 1 2 it stimulate the development of urban infrastructure in the country by building, avenues and buildings; the Columbus Lighthouse is one of the most important monuments built in their government. 3 A legacy of government is given the existing political patronage to this day. Balaguer shared the National Book Award in 1990 with his political rival and fellow writer Juan Bosch .
