Federal Government has planned to organise a summit for uniform youth organisations to come up with a common position aimed at promoting peace and curbing insecurity in the country. The Minister of Youth Development, Boni Haruna stated this during a visit paid to him, by members of the Peace Corps of Nigeria (PCN), in Abuja. Haruna said that with the security challenges in the country there was need to for the organisations to come together, so as to chat out a common course towards maintaining peace in the country. ‘’We should leverage on importance of organisations like yours to promote peace. There is need to organise a summit for uniform youth organisations to have a common positions aimed at promoting peace,’’ he said. Haruna commended PCN for its activities in promoting peace and pledged to add value to the organisation by helping it meet up with its mandate. Earlier, the National Commandant of the Corps, Amb.Dickson Akoh said the reason for their visit was to formally present the minister his award as the Senior Advocate of Peace, adding that the award which was conferred to some eminent Nigerians was a practical necessity for promoting peaceful co-existence and building a more and secure society. Akoh also corroborated the minister’s position on summit for all voluntary uniform youth organizations, saying, it would equip them with the basic knowledge to enable them gather primary intelligence data at their respective communities which could be transmitted to relevant security agencies for prompt and necessary action. While commending the minister for its contribution to youth empowerment as well as his support for the Corps in Adamawa, Akoh urged him to continue to play essential part in the search for peace, harmony and social order in Nigeria and the world at large.
