Federal funds set aside for combating wildfires will soon dry up, forcing us to tap into funds that are set aside for needed fire prevention, like controlled burns and dry brush removal. Now that Congress is back in session, we must act to address this public safety threat. There is bipartisan legislation, H.R. 3992, the Wildfire Disaster Funding Act, that will solve this problem by expanding the dedicated fund for wildfires and by treating the worst wildfires as natural disasters for purposes of emergency resources.
