Feeding Multiple Dogs - Dogs who eat their meal really fast then want everyone elses food. I thought I read about this in Patricia McConnells The Other End of The Leash, but now I cant find it. She (or something other trainer) taught her dogs that as soon as they are done eating, they are to run to the door for dessert (a tasty treat) Ive done sort of the opposite with my dogs. I was paying them to stay at their bowls when done. As soon as they are done eating, I just start dropping food into the bowl. For added training, Id do Leslie McDevitts Up/Down game. Id drop a treat into the bowl, wait for the dog to look up at me then drop the next treat as a reward. So that way, I had dogs who looked at me when they are done vs looking at other dogs. Another thing I do: Murphy (my oldest), eats really slow and Puddin (my youngest) eats really fast. So I made Murphys food easy to consume and I made Puddins food hard to consume. Murphy gets his meat cut into small chunks or sliced into thin strips. Puddin gets her meat in big slabs or stuffed into a kong. My two girls normally eat in a crate. Murphy usually eats close to the door or outside. Sometimes hell eat in a crate. How do yall handle your fast eaters?
