Fela Rotimi December 13 at 10:42pm COMPELLING REASONS FOR REAL BUT NOT COSMETIC POLITICAL CHANGE IN OGUN STATE . That His Excellency Senator Ibikunle Amosun (SIA) is on his way out of Oke Mosan in 2015 is all but certain; is no more the big issue in Ogun State. The political debate has since shifted not just to who takes-over, but must also include which political ideology takes center-stage. There is a huge albatross for Ogun electorate to unravel in defining what has to drive the matrix for change. Is it just anyone else but SIA as a support base for Amosun Must Go ? Is it just an opportunity to change Mr. Governor for the sake of change ? Essentially, what must underline our strategy for change ? If this is not responsibly defined, explained & orchestrated, Ogun electorate run the risk of repeating the mistake of election 2011 when change was the hue & cry but we missed-out in codifying our driver for change and the consequential resultant aftermath is now history. Political ideology is what clearly defines a political party & guides in articulation of programs, policy formulation & decision-making. With parties like Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC) and lately Social Democratic Party (SDP); they are three sides of the same triangle since all are conservative by ideology. In conservative set-ups, too much premium is placed on winner-takes-all, which makes it imperative that internal power struggles about who controls party structure & by extension a greater percentage of the largess, is a central feature. As evidenced in Ogun, conservatives by their nature push their luck to extreme; never think twice about under-mining incumbent administrations from the same party; bicker to the extent of loosing an election; soak-up the period in opposition; re-build by having a change-of-guards & face the electorate once again. In-other-words, party instability that eventually spills-over to the point of executive distraction which ensures that government activities are effectively grounded; is a conservative past-time. For any elected Governor, the ability to make correct & regime-defining decisions - no matter whose ox is gored; is an essential ingredient. In spite of a retinue of political aides, commissioners, senior special assistants & advisers; the buck still stops on the desk of Mr. Governor. But when a gubernatorial candidate is so desperate for nomination to the bizarre extent of swearing oaths of allegiance, compliance cum obedience to a godfather, or agrees to outrageous pre-bargain deals before eventually clinching party nomination; not only connotes bad taste, but also leaves little to the imagination. So whilst paid aides offer best advice in-cabinet, Mr. Governor dares not implement as-advised since this may go against the grain of godfathers. Meaning that policies cannot be crafted in best interests of Ogun State, but rather at the behest of godfathers who laugh all-the-way to the bank whilst Ogun electorate get short-changed. The import of this is as clear as daylight. Is Ogun State politically ready for a cosmetic change that might persuade us to elect another conservative Governor that could have been severely compromised ? Could Ogun State stomach another trial Governor who because of the manner of his emergence is so distracted to deliver to godfathers ? Is Ogun State ready to witness the motions of another conservative power struggle, un-ending bickering & possible break-up, as a follow-up to pre-election spit-spats ? Could Ogun State muster another clarion-call for yet another Governor XYZ must-go, for political reasons that are all too familiar ? Problem then is - for how long does Ogun State have to wait for either of our conservative parties to settle their squabbles amicably & focus on delivering quality governance. Reality however is that we are presently playing catch-up in all sectors of our economy & certain key pro-active decisions cannot wait. Cracking unemployment cannot wait, shaking-up our health care delivery cannot wait, unlocking potentials of our youths cannot wait, opening-up our trading opportunities cannot wait, transparent leadership cannot wait, balancing our books cannot wait, re-booting our mainstream education cannot wait, planning responsibly for state-wide developments cannot wait and lifting our citizens from avoidable poverty cannot wait. Labour Party (LP) is the only other alternative that offers a different orientation, different ideology, different urgency, different attitude, different foundation, different style, different mind-set, different focus, different perception, different appraisal, different goals, different assurances, different politics, different intuition, different dynamics, different compliance methods, different perspectives, different strategies and different political temperament. So, 2015 is the year to send clear, concise & un-ambiguous signal; that Ogun State is ready to lay to rest our demons of instability, gross under-development, misplaced priorities, executive recklessness, negligence and boldly change the narrative of political procrastination. A change from one conservative government to another administration with conservative leaning is cosmetic change which would not augur well for Gateway State in our present circumstances. Real change however has to be decisive, definitive, conscious break from the norm, an alternative, a will to begin again more intelligently with a switch that corrects commissions, omissions & mistakes of the past. Ogun State seeks real political change for relative but compelling reasons. When we contemplate change, we should be bold enough, convinced enough, focused enough, determined enough, rational enough, united enough & people enough to see-through fundamental change, but not patronize change for the sake of change. Sina Kawonise (SK), the LP Governorship candidate offers new thinking, workable solutions & fresh problem-solving acumen to tackle old but recurring problems. Election 2015 is our opportunity to once & for all look beyond failed and predictable outcomes of conservatism, otherwise we would be back to square one with no lessons learnt. SK is coming ! SK is the real change Ogun State seeks & rightly deserves !! SK is OK as Ogun State Governor !!!
