Felted Mitten Class with Karena Schmidt This winter as the blustery winds of Boreas again blow fiercely across the Keweenaw, you can welcome the chilled air with mirth and warm hands when attired in a hand-knit pair of thick felted mittens. In this four-session class, taught by Karena Schmidt, you will first knit a pair of mittens learning a method using three double-pointed needles and discover several useful nifty knitting techniques. The over-sized mittens will then be felted to your size preference and finally you will embellish the felted mitts with a whimsical design by needle-felting. A perfect treasure for yourself or to gift to someone you love. Class meets Thursday evenings, 6-8 pm, with extra help sessions at CAC on Saturdays Class 1, 22 Jan: Review of knit and purl stitches. Select yarn color. Cast on and knit mitten up to thumb gusset. Class 2, 29 Jan: Complete thumb gusset and finish mitten 1. Begin knitting mitten 2. Class 3, 5 Feb: Complete mitten 2. Machine wash mittens for felting. Work on design for needle-felting. Class 4, 12 Feb: Created needle felted design on mittens and complete project.
