File under: Fall Chores. Homemade coffee liqueur time. If I dont make it now it wont mellow in time for the holidays. Id better get a move on! :) Heres the recipe in case you didnt get it last year. I make a few large batches in my oversize soup pot. You may halve the recipe, or double it. Debis Homemade Coffee Liqueur 16 C. (1 gallon) water (filtered or distilled is best) 12 C. sugar 1 C. decaffeinated coffee 1 C. regular coffee 2 Tbls. vanilla (I use imitation, Im not filthy rich. lol) 2 Qt. vodka Add water and sugar to a large pot. Heat mixture just to boiling or until the sugar is completely dissolved, stirring often. Remove from heat and stir in coffees until dissolved. Let mixture cool to room temperature. Stir in vanilla and vodka. Ladle into quart or pint jars. Thoroughly clean the outside of the jars with a clean, damp cloth. Put on lids. Store in a cool, dry place for 6 to 8 weeks, the longer the better. Enjoy, and please drink responsibly. i105.photobucket/albums/m237/hrhqueencat/Drinks%20Hot/20111221coffeeliquerprimary.jpg Heres a web site with some great recipes for baking with this recipe: yummly/recipes/kahlua-baking (I dont remember how many jars this recipe fills. It depends on the size jars you use. You can buy a case of quart jars just to be sure, or recycle pickle/pepper/jelly jars with lids that you might have already around the house. I save mine all year. Be sure to sanitize them thoroughly inside.)
