First-ever #blind #candidate appears for #Gaokao In a landmark move that paves the way for greater accessibility of education for disabled students in #China, the first-ever blind candidate took the national college entrance examination, Gaokao, on Saturday. Li Jinsheng, 46, took the test in Braille, as per a new policy that was announced in March this year. The questions were adjusted based on papers for sighted students. He was also given an extra 40 minutes to answer. Meanwhile, Sunday was the second day of the Gaokao, with millions of students sitting for the exam. However, there has been a great deal of focus on two students who were unable to do so. Liu Yanbing and Yi Zhenyong could not take the exam because they are currently receiving treatment in the hospital. The two boys were injured while fending off a knife attack on a bus in Yichuan City, in Jiangxi Province, a week ago. The attacker stabbed five people, until Liu Yanbing, who was already stabbed, seized the knife. Their brave deeds have drawn widespread praise. The Chinese Ministry of Education has said that it will arrange a make-up exam for them.
