Firstly, I am not a blind supporter of Jian Ghomeshi. I have made comments(on FB) regarding the issue at hand, not taking either side of the case. I chose to take an objective point of view. As more information comes to light, it becomes more and more likely that he is guilty of something. Its not about believing someone or not. One thing Ive learned about social media, is not to believe everything you read because there is a large amount of BS that occupies FB daily. Here is what Im grasping from this shit show: Clearly there is more to this situation than just justice. Theres a very specific reason this issue is being handled through the media. Regardless of what he may or may not be guilty of, someone is getting payback by shaming him publicly. People are so quick to villainize someone, instead of seeing that maybe they need help. From what I know about the accused from reading about him and the occasional broadcast Ive heard, hes an intelligent and relevant personality. If someone is making a positive difference, should we silence them because they have demons, or should we intervene and say You need help. Let us help you. With media scandals like the Rob Ford fiasco and the most recent terrorist attack, we became aware of mental health implications, which is truly the root of many wrong-doings. Im not generalizing people who suffer from mental illness, as there are various degrees of this diagnosis. I, myself, deal with consistent anxiety, and can relate to dealing with some form of mental illness. I do not feel this groups me together with all who are mentally ill. It is important that we educate ourselves, and those around us, about the presence of mental illness in our society, and how we can better deal with those suffering on a different level than our own. I dont believe in Evil. I also dont believe there is a single answer to any of lifes questions. Im not saying that I condone or agree with everyones decisions, but shaming those I disagree with has also shamed myself. Move past your hate so that your input can be constructive. Shaming is simply attempting to scare someone straight, and ignores that individuals true problem (whatever the cause).
