Flares.... Mokume gane is the featured technique of this flaming bracelet in rich red and bordeaux tones (inspired by the wonderful work of Melanie Muir). Mokume gane was originally an ancient Japanese technique of metal layering used in the art of sword-making. With regard to polymer clay it translates to a slab of multi-layered clay that has been distorted and textured with tools and then thinly sliced to reveal the unique, inner patterns. It is exciting to discover the hidden magic and is a process that is intriguing to me. The not-quite-round beads have been sanded through several grades of grit, buffed to a glassy shine and finished with a soft polishing of protectant wax. The beads have been backed in copper tones of clay that has been softly textured. The beads are 4 cm in diameter are teamed with Bordeaux Swarovski baroque pearls and strung on elastic for easy wearing. The length of the bracelet is 24 cm and drapes pleasantly over the hand.
