Flight MH370 and QZ8501 - A comparative analysis. (By aircraft maintenance engineering) 1. MH370 - Region south east Asia. QZ8501 - Region south east Asia. 2. MH370 - No distress call made by the pilot. QZ8501 - No distress call made by the pilot. 3. MH370 - Clear weather conditions when the aircraft was last detected by the military radar over the strait of Malacca. QZ8501 - Poor weather conditions in the flight path. 4. MH370 - Aircraft after disappearing from the civilian radar over south China sea was again detected by a military radar over the strait of Malacca, suggesting that the transponders either malfunctioned or were deliberately turned off. QZ8501 - Aircraft after disappearing from the civilian radar never detected again by any other radar system, so far, suggesting that the transponders went off just at the time of the aircrafts disappearance. 5. MH370 - Malaysian airlines is not subscribed with the ACARS facility. The maintenance data is however recorded by the manufacturer (Boeing). QZ8501 - Air Asia is also not subscribed with the facility. It is not known whether the maintenance data is also recorded by the manufacturer (Airbus). This data will be of prime concern for the experts. 6. MH370 - ACARS was not fully functional after the aircraft went off screen from the civilian radar, suggesting that it either malfunctioned or deliberately turned off. However the ACARS pings suggested that the aircraft flew for another five and a half hour. QZ8501 - ACARS data is still not revealed to make any such conclusion. 7. MH370 - Black box battery is likely to be dead by now. QZ8501 - Black box battery is likely to be very much active thus sending beacons within a limited area to be picked up. 8. MH370 - No ELTs signal. QZ8501 - No ELTs signal. (This is raising the performance and working of the ELTs questionable OR the ELTs were deliberately turned off OR the aircraft did not crash into the sea or other terrain.) ELTs send an emergency signal world wide about its location when operated. ELTs operate in case of an aircrafts impact with the terrain. Also an ELT is within the cabin and can manually be operated. 9. MH370 - No debris found till today. QZ8501 - No debris found. If there would have been a mid air explosion, the debris of the aircraft flying at 38000 feet would have scattered over a vast region of the sea. Although its still early for the debris to be located in poor weather conditions. One thing to keep in mind is although the aircraft was flying over a region of high traffic area of shipping vessels, yet there was a strom in the region and the chances are that the marine traffic was thin or not at all, so that a falling aircraft could have been visually spotted.
