Following up with the training at Washington in Washington, DC NeighborWorks America is a leading trainer on affordable housing and community development in the United States. Both Shelene Shrewsbury and Nicole Hupp, CCCS Certified Housing and Credit Counselors, agree the trip was very educational. They spent the week of Dec 8 with 30-50 classmates and thousands of other participants from different areas of the housing industry. They received training on senior services, delinquent reverse mortgage counseling and HUD compliance. The Counselors think it is great to learn about additional solutions helping seniors through their financial hardships. As reverse mortgages are growing in popularity, they are not for every senior homeowner. It was nice for Shelene and Nicole to learn about other senior service options such as aging in place, assisted living, nursing homes, respite care, all while brushing up on Social Security, Medicare, and Veterans benefits. Attending the training especially let Shelene and Nicole understand reasons why some seniors become delinquent on reverse mortgages (a loan where no payment is required) and how they can help a senior avoid foreclosure on their home. Often this means negotiating and a payment plan for the clients delinquent taxes or insurance and finding a solution that the lender and senior can be happy with. As a HUD agency, we are dedicated to using the latest information to help clients who are interested in becoming a homeowner. During our housing counseling sessions, we would list out the elements that are standing in the way of someone wanting to own their home. Based on their situation, we will make a housing plan to build and/or rebuild credit and advise on staying within budget. For people who are afraid of losing their home, we will help you avoid foreclosure be negotiating on their behalf to the mortgage company. This process can be stressful and its nice to have someone like our Counselors on your side when sometimes it feels like the Mortgage company is not. CCCS is a non-profit community service organization dedicated to helping residents of the MOV achieve financial independence. We provide high quality debt, credit, and housing counseling at a reasonable price. Please dont hesitate to dial (304) 485-3141 if you have any need for financial, housing, or credit advice.
