For ALL my friends and lurkers who are worried about this dreaded of all meteorological phenomena, now called the Polar Vortex, read articles like this one with some sense. Many headlines incite fear. Dont panic! Yes, winter brings cold weather. You CAN deal with it--just as you did last year and all of the years before--some better, some worse. This is not Armageddon. This is not The Day After Tomorrow. This is just... winter. So, if your area gets very very cold, please consider the following: keep your pets indoors. Donate warm coats, socks, hats, gloves to the homeless. A cup of hot coffee would be nice, too. DO whatever small thing you can. And have a backup plan if you lose power.
