Altamonte Springs, FL/June 11, 2013- Cameron Lawrence celebrated his one-year anniversary of joining the Miller Racing team in the Trans Am Series by driving a flawless race at Watkins Glen to bring home the win, pad his already vast points lead, and lead the most laps of the race. After four rounds of the 2013 Trans Am Series, Lawrence now has a 30-point lead in the TA2 Class Championship. With what started as a wet weather weekend on Friday, the teams were unable to really get any dry-weather time to set up for the race on Saturday, which didn’t figure to have any rain. Cameron would run in second place in both practice sessions on Friday on the wet track before drying out for Qualifying. There too Lawrence would finish second with a fast time of 1:57.651, below the previous track record. Lawrence and the Miller Racing team’s only shot at a dry track came in the morning race warm-up session. They tried a couple different set up changes, but settled on the initial set up as his #11 Ctek/Out of the Life Chevy Camaro rolled off the truck. As the race was about to start Lawrence stated his strategy would be to stay close to the #98 Camaro of Bob Stretch, force him to go 100% for the duration and hope for an opening. That opening would come some 20-minutes into the 29-lap race, as they entered the bus-stop. Lawrence would pressure the leader and draft him up the back straight before making his move at the entry to the turn. Once past, Lawrence wouldn’t look back as he crossed the finish line several seconds ahead of the second place machine and extend his lead in the Championship to an impressive, an almost dominating, 30-points. After the race an exuberant Cameron Lawrence states; “I’m really excited to get this win. I need to continue getting as many points as possible towards the Championship, and nothing helps that more than getting the win! The team gave me a solid handling car all weekend, and was just able to out handle everyone else. These Miller Racing guys have been working so hard to keep these cars running up front, and are really making it easy for me. They deserve a lot of credit for the results we’re getting. I can’t wait to get to Road America in two weeks!” The next round of the 2013 Trans Am Series is at Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI on Friday, June 21st.
