For all Saddleback Unified School District Parents....My daughter - TopicsExpress

For all Saddleback Unified School District Parents....My daughter informed me today that teachers wont be posting grades on line any longer due to strike...I said what strike?...Here is what I found on their webpage.....So well only get to see our kids grades when we get reports. Not too happy about this....your thoughts? Post by Barbara Schulman, SVEA Vice President. Please Like, Share and Repost to help inform the community about the situation. I took this from a post on another teachers wall. Please read and understand the frustration.... Recently friends and neighbors have asked me why teachers in SVUSD have been wearing black and holding up signs. Five years ago, at the start of the economic crisis, teachers voted and agreed to take pay cuts in the form of furlough days and paying additional costs on health insurance. We knew the district needed our support to keep programs and teachers in place so that our students would continue to receive some of the best education in the country. Now that the district has approximately $50 million in unappropriated funding and almost twice as much as required in surplus funding, teachers would like to be able to negotiate to receive the funding that we agreed to cut out seven years ago. Newport-Mesa, Garden Grove,Tustin and other school districts have settled and been very fair to their teachers. SVUSD has not. If teachers receive everything they are asking for, the district would continue to have a surplus fund of over $41 million. Currently, the district has no plans to meet and negotiate with teachers. During this time, SVUSD teachers have continued to work extremely hard... well beyond the requirements of our positions. Many of us tutor students at snack or lunch or both, we are available before and after school to help students, we have maintained websites, posted grades regularly and answered emails in the evenings and on weekends. In the next few weeks, parents and members of the community may start hearing the phrase working to contract. What does this mean? It means teachers will do the job we are hired to do and only that. We will be on campus for the required time and the required time only, we will not be available at lunch or snack to help students, we will not maintain websites, and we will post grades when we are required to do so: at progress report and final grade time. Teachers do not want to work like this. We love our careers and we love our students. However when the district that hired us refuses to negotiate and treat us with respect and parity, we must take action. How can you help? On November 18 there will be a school board meeting at the district office in Mission Viejo on Peter Hartman Drive at 6:30 PM. Please come and support your childrens teachers.
