For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable - TopicsExpress

For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. (1 Tim 4:8) Exercise involves exerting your muscles in specific ways so as to keep fit. It involves training with multiple repetitions. As the natural man has exercises that keep him strong and fit, the spiritual man also needs to be exercised. Anyone enlisted in the army of God must endure strict training (2 Tim 2:3). This is not bodily training but spiritual. Some of the spiritual exercises include prayer, the word and fasting. Spiritual exercise has a dual role in this life and also that to come. This exercise can keep you in shape physically while at the same time making deposits in eternity for you. Spiritual exercise is profitable for both body and spirit. You can cut weight by abiding in the word. However, exercise is only effective because of the repetitions made. If you must achieve mastery, compete according to the rules (2 Tim 2:5).
