For me this was at once an emotional view - heartwarming etc. (I was certainly teary through much of it) - and at the same time it made my blood boil. For me it trivialized the Holocaust, and highlights the early years of commercialization of everything - in this instance the Holocaust. TWA, the hotel company, and every company that could make a dollar on the sharing of her story in this sentimental glazing-over of an incredibly traumatic period in this womans life - and of the world - chimed in at the advertising phase to make some money off her story. Sentimentalized, trivialized - glossing over (burying) the horror of what she and her friends from the past and 6 (plus survivors - whats the total number???) million went through. In an earlier post I decried/denigrated CNN and cable in general and it really boils down to this piece for me. An amazing story of survival but commercialized and told with - smarm. What a smarmy guy telling this story. At least when this was aired, the greedy advertisers paid the bill because the airways were owned by the public and they had to pay for the privilege of using the public airways. Now, if you pay for and watch cable you pay for the privilege of receiving whatever claptrap advertisers think they can hoodwink you with. Im sure I could say this much more effectively and clearly. It makes me mad, though...
