For those of you that are numbers people... here is some data and thoughts about my ride today.... 5 x 10 min goal of 270 watts inside a 3 hour ride... Ive said this a lot.. muscular endurance is far more important than HR (cardiovascular system). Which is why I PREACH Power for bike and PACE for run... I was LOW zone 2 HR however was in ZONE 4 Power working on my strength. Focus on power and pace and the HR will align itself as fitness improves and comes around. Fitness will ONLY come around from consistent habits... doing the rights things over a long period of time... this isnt a sport of instant gratification and test cramming. You have to put in the time, take your lumps and pay your dues. You will never hear someone at the finish line of an Ironman say... Man my legs felt great, it was my high HR that kicked my ass today. You are more likely to hear My HR was low but man my legs were HEAVY, felt like I was running (walking) with bricks on my feet. (This is also likely due to pour pacing on the bike prior to a MARATHON). Do the work... put in your time and BUILD your STRENGTH. Just my thought for the day... Also as a side not this is the perfect example of why a SPEED goal in a race is super unrealistic....even a time goal for that matter... note my power only varied 3 watts over the 5 efforts but my speed varied 15mph from slowest to fastest average over the 10 minutes... this was due to win and slight elevation gain and loss... but my EFFORT was appropriate and within my abilities... #TeamYL #KonaTime 10 min NP 260 Power 275 RPM 89 HR 141 Speed 24.21 10 min NP 275 Power 274 RPM 87 HR 146 Speed 20.80 10 min NP 272 Power 274 RPM 91 HR 146 Speed 30.18 10 min NP 276 Power 274 RPM 79 HR 143 Speed 15.21 10 min NP 278 Power 277 RPM 81 HR 143 Speed 17.40
