Found this on a Web site relating to Ardrossan, is this true or just a rant? Hookup Spots im surprised people who claim to belong to ardrossan dont know the history of the place, the reason it is called cannon hill is there used to be a cannon from the castle sat at the top of the stairs just across from the the pencil monument, this was removed years ago,and the stone lion at the pencil used to sit outside the old caledonian railway station in montgomery street. The Cannon Hill is called Cannon Hill. I grew up in Ardrossan and this is what it was always called by everybody. We all wondered why it wasnt called Castle Hill, and nobody knew why not. It was ALWAYS called Cannon Hill. i read the comment above that someone used to hook up at at a place called cannon hill in ardrossan there is no such place ,the name is castle hill, hard to belive that someone who grew up less than a mile from the castle didn`t know this. When the weathers nice, which seems to be increasingly the case, the promenade isnt a bad spot. Wide footpaths, there is, or was, plenty of benches. The Castle Hill also used to be a popular place for hanging around. When I was young and used to visit my grandparents in Saltcoats the old Castle Ruins up the top of Cannon Hill used to be popular to hang around. Its probably mainly a drunks and druggies haven now though. There used to be a big slide that AFAIK got removed because it was classed as unsafe. Also, a childrens park with rides up the top. Cannon Hill was good becuase there was an impressive all round view on a good day. South Beach Station and the park there might have some dubious types hanging around. Also, check Ardrossan Academy, advice for those who want to scout the area, a kevlar vest might be useful. Ardrossan has very few places where civilised people would want to meet, however, considering this isnt the most civilised place...here we go. The junction of Princes Street and Glasgow Street. Theres a small hive of shops round about there. I foresee the harbour becoming a gathering place for neds and thugs especially if it gets developed further. No way would I buy a posh house in Ardrossan. Anon.
