Friday 20th September “What gives it life?” by Doris Lange officially opens at 6pm, at Artscape, 45 Jackson Street Wynyard, exhibition finishes 5th October. Doris Lange was born near Cologne in Germany, she migrated to Australia in 1965, and for the last twenty five years has lived and worked in Tasmania, on the North West coast. Before coming to Tasmania, Doris worked for twenty years as a milliner making and selling handmade hats for the well-to-do ladies of Melbourne. Whilst in Tasmania and up until her retirement Doris worked in horticulture at Flowerdale and lives in Lapoinya, near Wynyard. Doris has been painting, drawing and making sculpture now for over thirty years. She paints landscape and people of all ages. Recently she painted a portrait of the Queen and sent it the monarch in London; Doris received an appreciative letter of praise from the palace. The painting and letter are part of this exhibition. Doris says “I am inspired by the joy I feel by putting real life, onto canvas". This is her first exhibition.
