Friday, August 8 Romans 5:15-21 GRACE AND JUSTIFICATION ...But where sin increased, grace increased all the more.... Romans 5:20, NIV In today’s passage, the apostle presents Christ’s work and its effect on humankind as being totally different from that of Adam, and vastly superior. What one did, in each case, affected not one but many people. But the expression, ‘how much more’ bound up with the recurring use of ‘grace’ and ‘gift,’ suggest that the work of Christ does not merely cancel the effect of Adam’s transgression but gives humankind far more than they lost through Adam. Christ’s work brought grace (God’s ability to live above sin) and justification (the state of being declared innocent). Therefore, human beings do not have to wallow and struggle in sins. Grace and justification are God’s special gifts to believers. It cannot be overemphasised that forgiveness of sins is only possible through Christ alone. No sinner can be justified by Mosaic or moral law except by Christ Jesus who has made a complete atonement for us. Now, when God justifies anyone, there is no court of law that can condemn him/her. Therefore, let Him justify you in all matters. In verse 20, the Bible says, “… but where sin increased, grace increased all the more.” The implication is that there is a corresponding grace to live above sins that are permeating the society. As sins increase in the land, God has also given you the grace to say no to its temptation. The grace is there to teach you always and make you justified before God and humankind (Titus 2:11). • Birthday Blessing: “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” Isaiah 40: 29 Read Bible Through Passage: Psalm 19-24; Romans 5 Nothing is real for you to claim or achieve until it is conceived and accepted personally.
