Friends, I am about two days out and reaching out for donations. I will be attending the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s “Cycle for Life” event this upcoming Sunday and riding the 62 mile course. The main goal of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is to help raise funds which are used strictly to fund research in hopes of finding a cure for Cystic Fibrosis (CF). CF is a genetic killer; put simply. It is a recessive disorder which affects both the lungs and the digestive system (mainly the pancreas) of those who have it. Coating the airways and digestive tract in a thick mucus which not only leads to malabsorption of nutrients and restrictive breathing, but this mucus causes severe infections in the lungs, which eventually over time begins to take its toll leading to lung failure and premature death. The life expectancy is around 36 years old, cutting most people down in the prime of their lives (if they are lucky enough to make it that far). I am asking for your donations since the federal government does not fund any of the research going on for CF! In the past few years there have been some leaps forward in research all funded by donors, and no tax payer dollars. The reason for this is due to the fact that CF affects around 36,000 people in the US, and around 1 million globally, forcing it to be far from the scope of attention. If none of the above has grabbed your attention, consider this: I have Cystic Fibrosis. Yes, your friend, neighbor, loved one, bike buddy, or whatever I may be to you has CF. I am currently 23 years old, and like I said earlier, expectancy is 36, so your friend here is middle aged by medical standards. I am not asking for a donation so that I can brag that I raised money, but instead I am so that there is continued support of lifesaving research that benefits not only myself, but the other 36,000 people with CF in the US can continue on and make CF stand for Cure Found one day.
